Raising Children with Down Syndrome
A Note from Carol
Our school starts this week on Wednesday. We still need to go shopping for school supplies! Nathan's can wait until the end of Sept! Nathan is really into watching "Blue's Clues". How about your little ones do they like a special tape or DVD?
So does anyone plan to see "Tropic Thunder"? I have very mixed feelings about this film and the use of the "R" word. I have never liked the word and always thought that the use of it was wrong. However, my niece's very good friend loves Nathan. She always calls him her future husband even though she is almost 40 and he is going to be 3! She would never do anything to intentionally hurt him. She goes on the Buddy Walk with us and is a very caring and loving person. She even works in the medical field as a nurse. All that said she also uses the "R" word at times.
Do people just not stop to think when they use the word? Is it just a word and we are over sensitive? I don't have any answers. I would like to watch and evaluate the film to see if it is that offensive. Yet I am afraid I would just come out very mad and upset. So I think I will donate my money to the Buddy Walk!
Have a great weekend. You are in my thoughts and prayers!

I live in North Jersey & have a great hubby & 2 wonderful girls. Our oldest is 8 (Jaden) & will be starting the 3rd grade in a few weeks. Our youngest is 2 (Sofia) & has Down syndrome. I am currently a SAHM & I love being able to stay home with my kids. I am able to help when Sofia has therapy & learn with her to help her move forward.
Sofie just started walking after her 2nd birthday. Her next big challange will be potty training! Her older sister can't wait to help out anyway she can. Jaden & Sofia love eachother so much! We are excited about the upcoming Buddy Walk in NYC in Sept. It will be our 1st one. I have been very blessed with both of my girls & my hubby.
Inspirations
Following directions. We all have to learn to do this at some point in our li ves. Go here, sit there. Smile for the camera. Som e are fun like make a silly face. Others are more serious like look both ways before you cross the street. Common sense right. It is just as common to cherish our sweet beautiful babies. We are their first teachers. They will learn so much more from you than any teacher in school. You teach them love and patience and kindness. They build their characters from your examples. High praise to all you Mom's raising these beautiful children to be anything they desire to be. Compliments move mountains and loving words inspire the determination to conquer anything we encounter in life.So this week as you pack lunches and load backpacks remember to also pack a little of the love from deep down in your heart for them to carry with them on this fabulous journey called school.
