My hubby is the kitchen manager at Iron Skillet in a Petro truck stop. When drivers have loads that are refused for some reason or another they usually have to get rid of that load where ever they are. Loads are usually refused when one case or box is damaged on a whole pallet but nothing is wrong with most of the product. Well they usually just give it away or sell it really cheap to the employees working at the truck stop they stop at.
We have gotten maple breakfast sausage for $5 a case, a case of babyback ribs (john morrell) for $20 that had 9 ribs in it and my mom bought 2 from us for $5 each. 2 cases of "i cant believe its not butter and 8 brunch cakes for free. Cases of green onions and we have gotten some other things.
BUT THIS TIME WE HIT THE JACK POT. WE got almost 50lbs of John Morrell Pork loin for free. The driver sold it the employees for $5 a case (40lbs each) But the weren't cut but since he works a restaurant the cuts meat my hubby knew how to use the meat cutting band saw. The driver gave the last 3 cases away and for the dh and the otehr manager cutting ALL the meat for the employees the got to split the boxes. Dh cut most of them into good pork chops but left part of one uncut for a pork roast.

that is awsome! my grandpa was a truck driver and I remember when I was 14 he had a trip out here to CA from OK and when he got to the delivery point, some water had leaked into the back of the truck in one corner and so the place refused 4 big containers. My Grandpa stopped by our house on the way back to OK and gave my mom 2 of the boxes. When we opend it we found laundry soap for 2 different brands. They were in plastic bags so there was nothing wrong with them just the big box they were carted in! We had laundry soap for 2-3 years, for free. He took the other 2 boxes and gave one to my uncle in TX and took one home for himself. My other grandpa and 2 uncles are also/were truckers and they have similar stories about companies refusing perfectly fine products just because something was wrong with the outside packaging or it was delivered late. Congrats on your score!
It's all about liability. In this situation, to a big corp one bad apple does in the rest.
Quoting paisleypaint:Wow that is awesome! My BF is hopefully satrting OTR soon maybe lady luck will hit our house too! That seems so wasteful to deny a whole pallet because of one or two torn packages.
Half my family is/was truckers, and then I married into another trucking family. LOL I love it when good things happen to good people. :o) Go buy a lotto ticket! lol

Please forgive any typos, I nurse & snuggle at keyboard! One-handed typing ROCKS!
Quoting TheBabyFactory4:
those people refused their own shipment. Mainly walmart distribution center is bad for that!
Quoting lovinallofthem:
wow! that is a great deal!
too bad for those people who are actually waiting for those shipments.
Yesterday I got a case of water because walmart had refused a shipment...I'd rather have the pork, but waters good! With many kids doing sports those sports bottles are great.
My uncle used to manage a place which towed and dealt with the big rigs which had been in accidents...we used to get lots of things that way...a favorite was pickles, undamaged in a minor wreck, but could not be sold, I believe insurance probably helps offset the cost of "lost" goods.
Good for you. I remember once when a truck had a load of frozen potatoes that were turned down. We were filling every ones freezes we could find, These were 5 pound restaurant bags, Poor college studenst scored that day.
