Every time you brew coffee for a customer, you'll get an entry in your journal. You can always find your journal on your Latte Land homepage. By reading the journal closely, you can get some idea of what happened with that customer!
Every time you make coffee, you have a chance to be paid by the customer, earn experience points, and even get a tip!
Payment and experience points are based on two things:
1) How well did you make the coffee? The journal entry will say "You made a good..." or "You made a mediocre..." or "You failed at making...", which will tell you how good your brew was. You'll always be more successful at making lower-level drinks, but you usually won't earn as much money for making them.
2) Does the customer like what you made for them? Some customers will like anything, regardless of how well it's made. Some will only like well-made drinks. Some will only like one or two drinks - regardless of how well they are made. Experiment with the customers and learn about what they like and how they like it made!
Tipping is based on your hostessing skill. Later in the game, you'll be able to increase your hostessing skill, but in the beginning you can't. About 10% of the time, a customer will leave you a tip just because they like your service (even if the coffee wasn't that great) - but they'll only leave you a tip if they were happy with what you made.
Also, the color of the journal entry will help you decipher what to do. If a customer's journal entry is in Green, it means you have found their favorite (or one of their favorite) drinks, and made it well. In White, it means you have made them something they like (or something they love, but you didn't do the best job making it). And a Red journal entry means you either failed at making the drink, or made something that that customer really doesn't like. Go for Green!
