Hello! I'm Colleen, mama to four little ones - ages 6, 4.5, 3, and 16 months - and I'm a part-time barefooter. During the warmer months, I rarely wear shoes in my home, about half the time outside with the kids, and I garden barefoot. In the colder half of the year, I wear shoes outside all the time, and 100% of the time in public.

I have been reading more about barefooting lately, because I heard something about running barefoot on NPR radio and it piqued my interest and brought back that interest. I intend to start running barefoot tomorrow - I'll be taking it slow and building up my tolerance, because I know that my feet have been weakened by years of shoe-wearing, but I'm really excited to get started, and just planning to have fun with it.

I'm hoping to meet at least a few other moms who appreciate being barefoot, and perhaps some who choose to go barefoot almost all the time despite negative ideas others might hold about that choice.

  • Hi Im Melanie mommy to 9 month old Callie....If Im in public I am in flip flops and only when there is snow on the ground (which is rare in Las Vegas but it does happen) do I wear regular shoes.....I never wear shoes in my house and rarely if Im outside with the dogs or doing yardwork....I happen to think that my feet are the perfect shape and I attribute that to not wearing shoes =)

  • I go by Em, I'm a 30 year old SAHM to a 9 month old boy and a 4 1/2 year old boy.

I've preferred to be barefoot my whole life. I wear flip flops in public and since it does snow a lot in the winter here, I begrudingly have to wear some kind of shoe then.

I go every where I can with no shoes on. I hate the feel of shoes on my feet, always have. I always say that walking around barefooted is how nature intented, otherwise we'd have been born with shoes on our feet already! Besides, I think you feel more connected with nature this way.

I do endure quite a bit of comments over it but, It's never really bothered me. I figure that I've spent thirty years like this, and if thirty more years with a few comments here and there is the worst things I'd have to endure...than I would have to have a pretty sad life!

Welcome, Em! I live in NH and we do have cold, snowy winters. I have a pair of flat soft- soled boots that are as close to barefoot as I can manage while still being warm.

I haven't gotten many comments, mostly because I'm almost always in shoes in public. It's just so ingrained. I'm going to be more aware this summer of when I'm putting on shoes just because I think I'm supposed to, and not because there's glass on the ground, or something. You have such a great attitude - being barefoot seems to not only connect you to nature, but also to your own autonomy and to the natural freedom. I love that and want more of it in my life. :-)

  • Hello!

I am Annette, mother of one litle boy (17 months) and we both go barefoot ALL the time.  I really started going shoe-less at home when I met my DH, who always had a "shoes off" home growing up.  We adopted that policy and he'll even go out on the driveway barefoot sometimes (but he has feet of leather now so he can!)  I actually don't like feet...never have...BUT I don't like the feeling of my toes being trapped in shoes if the weather is not cold or wet.

I only wear shoes indoors if I'm cleaning or cold...then I have sheerling slippers :)

I LOVE being barefoot in the sand, on the grass, in the water...it's a whole sensory experience that we deny ourselves if we don't make the time.

Proud mamma of a homebirthed, intact, cloth diapered,

breastfeeding, co-sleeping and happy little BOY!

Feel free to call me a "hippie"...it makes me smile
