Our Miracle Baby

Hi ladies.  I'm new to the group and SO WISH I would've found it sooner!!!  I haven't been through nearly as much as most of you but thought I'd be here to offer support and advice on living through the cerclage and bedrest to those of you going through it now.

I'm 25, an army wife, and currently 37.5 weeks pregnant with our little miracle princess.  This is my first pregnancy and the doctor's called it an "act of God" that my incompetent cervix was caught before we lost our baby.. with virtually no symptoms at all.

Her head was very low at our 20 week ultrasound & when trying to get a measurement they noticed my cervix was 50% effaced & 1.5cm long.  The doctor sent me to a specialist, who confirmed the incompetent cervix diagnosis, and immediately sent us to the hospital for a cerclage.  I was 20wk 2 day and had the spinal, cerclage went in fine, and I stayed overnight for monitoring.  The next day I was sent home on pelvic rest, modified bed rest, & lifting restrictions.  At 28 weeks I had another ultrasound and my cervix was down to 1.0cm and 70% effaced so they sent me to the hospital to get steroid shots (for lung development) & for overnight monitoring.  Things looked ok and I was sent home on strict bedrest- up just to pee and otherwise laying down.  Finally last Tuesday, just shy of 37 weeks, my cerclage was safely removed!!!  I went from closed to 2cm immediately and was 70-80% effaced with baby's head right there.  My BP was high so I had a follow-up scheduled for Thursday but he didn't know if I'd make it or not.  I had contractions all day Tuesday but they weren't close enough together & stopped overnight.  Thursday I was between 3-4cm and around 80% effaced, but my BP was better so they sent me home.  I'm scheduled for an induction next Friday, March 12, unless she comes before then (diabetes & BP issues so they don't want me running into problems if I go to 40 wk).

I am sorry for all of you who have lost first pregnancies before being diagnosed with IC.  I cannot imagine how that must feel, even being scared of it myself at times.  But, with the cerclage, great doctors, and lots of bed rest you CAN carry a baby to term!  I'm here to encourage you through the rest of your journey and praying you all carry healthy babies as close to term as possible.

Well I am glad that yours was caught. On the other hand my husband and I was not as lucky with either on of our daughters. But God works in mysterious ways and even tho the worst days of my life was burying my baby girls, Natalie and Emily (They were a year apart)  I had cerclages, bedrest for 3 months in the hospital and shots, everything with Emily..But when God has another plan, we cannot stop him. The happiest day was when our son was born. We prayed for a baby, either way thru us or adoption...and God heard our cries and are in the process of adopting this beauitful boy ! I wish you the best of luck, and pray that you never have to endure what most of us have been thru. When your child dies, a piece of you go with's hard to heal, but in time it does. You are truely blessed to have your IC caught before it claimed the life of your daughter..God is truely amazing!!

God Bless ~ Amanda
