So my dr ( I have to go on a military base I don't have a choice) I have only seen a few times. I had to wait 7 weeks inbetween the 10 week and 17 weeks and then again I didn't get seen till 21 weeks. That was the last time I have been seen. I was supose to have an apt Fri but with all the rain we got the clinic got flooded. When I called to reschedule they only have Mon( tomorrow) or the following monday. But I wasn't allowed to bring the kids. My hubby leaves for Quanico, VA for a week today. I have no one to watch the kids. So I have to wait till the 23 to be seen. I have been having issues, but was going to wait till I could ask the dr. I have history of pre-term labor with my other kids. I won't be able to take myself into the er unless the kids go with me. So I will only go if thres something major wrong. I hate this. My last apt was on Oct 1. With the other two pregnancies I went every 4 weeks and got my urine tested every time for protien and suger. They havent done a urine test since the 10 weeks apt. Idl if whats going on is what the military dr's think is ok, or maybe it is ok. IDK have anyone else gone through something like this. I'm just upset. I know little man is moving around, but I have been having braxton hicks contrations and a few real ones all day just about 2 or more an hr. Most of this don't hurt some do and with it comes the recal presure. I have also been having a rassing heart. I have been told at the few apts Ive had that my pulse has been around 120. When I do the slightest exercise my heart rate climbes sky high. I don't know what causes it. I can't even walk around the store without getting this. IDK if thats normal. This pregnancy has been so different from the other two.
i had our son at our military hospital, and i had an amazing dr i was high risk and seen VERY frequently. they dont do urine tests every visit. if you worried you need to tell them to do one.
they are booked up a lot so thats why you arent seen as frequently BUT if they thought you were in any danger they would send you to thei rhigh risk clinic or see you more frequently this preg i went to them until I was 7 weeks and they saw me at 5 6 and 7 weeks. but because my dr had moved bases i decided to switch to tricare standard which you can t otally do and my maternity care is 100 percent covered.
Ugh. I hated the military doctors. They wouldn't see me until 12 weeks, then every 4 weeks after that. The 12 week appt. was just an intake appt. so all they did was sit me at a desk and ask me questions. We ended up losing that pregnancy at 19w5d. This time around we are seeing a civilian doctor because I was not comfortable with the care I got on base. I am happy with the doctor I have now. They do urine tests every visit, listen to hb, measure, all that good stuff. I know you can switch to a civilian doctor at any point if you want to. You have to go to the tricare office and they will either assign you one, or if you look on tricare's website you can choose one that is accepting new patients and let them know that is who you want to go to. Good luck mama, and I hope that everything turns out ok.
first of all you do have a choice as far as your dr. no one can tell you you dont. My husband is active duty military and I am seeing an off post dr that I had when i delivered my daughter before we were ever married. You just have to switch to tricare standard and not prime.
as far as you appts, i know what you mean! when i was going on post earlier in this pregnancy it was the same. all they would do is weigh me and check my blood pressure. Urine was never checked. then they did an unneccesary pap (had one in march of this yr, and he did another in august). I hated being seen by the military drs and felt i wasnt being takin care of properly, that is why i am now with a civilian dr.
When we were at Ft Benning things ran pretty much the same way as if I were with a civilian dr. Id try to talk to them and see what the deal was request that ur protien be checked and they look more into your heart rate. I think sometimes you jsut have to be persistant with them. Just def make the most of the appts and when you are there if they give you a hard time ask to speak to the clinic liasion or who ever is in charge explain hey Ive got this going on I have been high risk Im worried and I dont feel as though Im being cared for. If you get nothing there go over there heads as long as none of these ppl are connected with hubbys unit Id raise hell! Ive heard horror stories about the base drs and hospitals but never expeirenced it myself. Sorry hun.
Really I don't think it has anything to do with whether or not your Dr. is a military Dr. or civilian. It just depends on who your Dr. actually is. I have had nothing but great experiences with the military care and this is my 3rd pregnancy. But like I said I think it depends on what Dr. you get. I have NEVER once had my urine checked and I've never even heard of anyone doing that before. As far as being seen SO far apart that's kinda strange. You can request a different Dr. as long as there is availability. Good luck:)
