Do I need to fast before I go in to take the glucose test? And for how long if I do?
having worked in the medical profession for a long time... we prefer that you fast. you get more accurate results. but i would call your doctor because has the pp said.. she didn't fast. I know here in our area we require you to fast. if you have eaten anything within 12 hours of taking your test we will reschedule you. so I suggest that you call and talk to your ob about what they prefer.

I took the 1 hour test twice and I had to fast. I was told not to eat or drink anything other than water after midnight. my lab lets you get there between 7-8:30. they won't let you take the test after 8:30 though

I didnt fast before mine my dr didnt tell me too and therefor i had no idea i was even supposed too. I asked the nurse when she gave me the drink if it mattered if i had eaten and if so what i had eaten she asked me how long ago i ate and what was it, All i had was a granola bar while driving to my appointment and a bottle of water on the way there. She said it would be fine and let me do it anyway. Guess it was a good thing i happened to be pressed for time that morning cuz usually everymorning i have a bowl of cereal with a glass of some kind of juice.
i did my one hour last week and didn't eat just drank a little and i failed so i have to do the three hour one it was supposed to be today but they put it off for three weeks because i've been really sick and that requires fasting (no eating after midnight) for the one hour one you don't have to but you might want to watch what you eat for more accurate results but i dont think it really matters too much because i've failed both mine without eating...lol gl anyways
