I fed Percy mostly purina and beneful until last fall when it suddenly occurred to me that maybe those were not the best foods ever. I did a little bit of research and found that they were coated with oil and listed grains first or close to the top of the ingredient list. I looked into what was considered "better" dog food and picked one based on what I could afford and what would hopefully benefit my dog the most. I settled on Innova. Percy loved it and ate it with a gusto until a month or so ago.
On another dog forum I saw a post regarding Innova and how it had been bought out and since the buy out, several dogs had stopped eating their Innova. Like flat out refusing to eat it. (The timeline matched when Percy stopped eating it as willingly.) Some people are speculating that the ingredients, quality of ingredients, or cooking process has changed since the brand changed ownership. Regardless, my dog isn't eating so I need to switch to something else. What do you feed your dog? Do you think the brand of food really matters? Any suggestions?
Thanks!

That happens a lot with dogs foods at one time Iams was a decent food but NO more, I think they got bought out and why they have to change formulas is rediculous because dogs have sensitive palets and they KNOW.
I feed Costco brand, which is comparible to Blue Buffalo without the antioxidant nuggets. But 4 start rating my dogs do well on it.
I've heard really good things about Orijen, Fromms, and Blue Buffalo. The only one I can get near me is Blue Buffalo. I might check out the Costco brand. Is it a specific kind they have or is it just any of the costco dog foods?
Did you know that when pet food makers change ingredients, they don't have to notify the public for up to a year?! They can just keep using the old bags with the old ingredient list until all the old bags are gone!! Yes, Natura, the makers of Innova, EVO, California Natural, etc was bought out by Proctor & Gamble, the makers of Iams & Eukanuba. I don't trust ANYTHING from P & G because they do cruel & unneccessary animal testing!
Quoting CollinBayleeMom:
The Costco brand is Kirkland...they even make a grain-free version. I've never tried it, but have heard nothing but great things.
yea we use it too. they have healthy wieght, adult, puppy, ect.
Costco also has an organic food. A new food not Kirklands is salmon based and grain free a little more expensive but not to bad.
We use the Costco grain free. We actually just switched from Holistic select to the costco one. It's about 1/2 the price, and the ingredient list is very similar! So far so good ;)
I just did a little internet "re"search, and it looks like Diamond makes Costco's new grain free food.
ETA: I think Diamond also makes Taste of the Wild.
Diamond makes a lot of brands. I have no problem with Diamond. The only one that Diamond makes that I will not feed is their regular line because they contain too much byproduct/corn/wheat!
I also just wanted to correct something I said in my other post: I said "Did you know that when pet food makers change ingredients, they don't have to notify the public for up to a year?!" It's actually up to 6 months, not a year, but that's still bad because what if you chose that food for your dog's health (like if he was allergic to something and you chose the food because it didn't have it) and they change the ingredients without you knowing, your dog could get sick!
