Show us around your town, or a town you really like... tell us a story with your photo's if you want to.

This is the old and new of my town, made kinda like a postcard, we have a huge mall about 2 miles from all this, I try and stay away from it...

The rock building used to be the bank now it is the Chamber of Commerce..

I'm finally getting around to doing this....

This is my town, where I grew up, where I moved back to, and where a lot of my relatives still live. It's a small town, about 350 people, with a lot of history. The first people that settled here were the Seminole Indians. After that, around 1787, the first descendants, who were Scotch-Irish, bought a 262 acre tract of land which is now the town where I live. In the early 1800s the town and surrounding lands became a big attraction to coal miners and their families, as the area is rich in coal. After the coal was mined out, the towns population decreased to basically what we have today.

At the beginning of town, we have our honor roll, where everyone who fought in any war has their name. My dad's name and 2 uncles names are on it.

Our town's claim to fame.

Not far from the honor roll is our post office. It's in the basement of someone's house, and has been in someone's house for as long as I can remember, and beyond. This is where I get my mail and town gossip everyday.

The CSX Railroad runs through town...

And so does The Youghiogheny River.

This is the Catholic church in town, which isn't in use anymore.

This summer, they tore down the Methodist church. It sat between my house and my grandparents' house. I went to Sunday school here. I was very sad when they tore it down, but I was there everyday, taking lots of pictures.

This is me, as a baby, in my yard. My love of gardening started early! Anyway, the Methodist church is in the background...

And them tearing it down...

The stained glass windows in the church. One of them was my grandparents'.

There are 3 cemeteries in town, and I have relatives in each one. This is the cemetery in front of the little white church.

This cemetery is where my immediate family is buried.

This cemetery, by far, is the oldest and creepiest. It's in the woods at the end of town, and is only accessible via woods or a small dirt road. But it's my favorite! Here's some pics of me in the cemetery.

Believe it or not, this is the end of town. Yes, my town is a dead end!!! There's a rumor that it was in Ripley's Believe It Or Not as being the only town with a one way in, one way out.

I live on the hill, up from the town, on an acre of land in the house that my parents' built. I'm queen of the town! LOL! Here's the front/side of my house from my alley.

And that's my town! It's small and boring, but I love it here! It's mostly woods and the scenery is gorgeous!!! Anyway,  I hope I didn't bore anyone!!!

WOW! those are great and I too Loved the story. You really must present the one of the CSX to them, they might like to buy that for advertisement or better yet that one and  The Youghiogheny River would be so awesome in an art gallery.

Thank you so much for the history. It helped make your picture story very interesting.

Thanks for taking the challenge. Now I am inspired to go out and shoot mine.

I didn't get one of the stained glass windows....yet. I know some of them are still there. I did want to get a piece of one, at least, because the windows are at least 7 feet high and about 300 lbs. I really wouldn't have anywhere to put it! LOL!

I usually get some kind of gossip at the post office, especially when some of the other ladies from town come in.
