hello! i've been practicing bikram yoga for about 2 yrs and there is a couple children (ages 7+ ??) that go to our studio. I was thinking of taking my 5 yr old but I'm not quite sure how he'd handle it. Does anyone have experience with children that age and bikram yoga?
Quoting ashlet01:
Bump. Sorry my toddler goes nutsy when I do my sun salutations, tries to use me as a jungle gym.
Thanks :) My 2 yr old does that too! My 5 yr old is good though w/ copying the postures (or at least attempting). I'm just worried about the heat (it's in a 98 degree room) and the length (its a 90 min class). Like I said there are other kids there, but I'm just thinking he may be too young yet :(
And they kinda frown upon leaving mid-class so if he were to get upset/bored/whatever I'd hate to disturb the class and let hot air out... Idk...
My only suggestion is to call the studio and ask their opinion. I personally had to leave our Bikram studio (104 degrees) because I couldn't handle the heat. Take heat out of the equation and I don't think my 5 year old could last anywhere near 90 minutes. Maybe the studio would consider offering a parent/kid class sometime if there was enough interest and could modify temperature and tiime. Just a thought but I know how those Bikram studios follow some strict guidlines.
I would not do that. That might be very dangerous for such a young child. JMHO, though. :-)
I would not recommend taking a small child to a hot yoga class. They process heat differently than adults do, and they don't have the same sweating capabilities as adults. So, they are more likely to become overheated quicker. I'm also a bit appalled that the yoga instructors allow children that young into the class. It isn't safe.
