Namaste Yoga

This is the yoga I do. It is a 30 minute show on FitTV that I have DVRed all the episodes of so I can chose whichever one I want to do that day. I have never taken an actual class so I will give a breakdown of how the yoga is done on this show.  The cool thing about the show is that you have a resting point (center) that is different depending on the sequence for that epidose. For example Heart Opening is a wide legged stance where you bring your hands in namaste at the heart center and open them wide during inhale and then pull them back in the exhale. The narrator reminds you to have a soft belly on inhale and pull belly into spine in exhale. From there (this is the one I did today so I will use it as the example of how a show works) you go into Warrior 2. Inhale and bring your legs straight and focus forward and then exhale to deepen. You do that again and then hold pose for a full breathe. Back to center for a "link" is what they call it (basically inhale movement and exhale movement) then you go back into warrior 2 then into exhalted warrior. Deepen that. Back to center. And it just keeps adding on, deepening the new pose and back to center. Then you go through the sequence going through the poses with each breathe. Close with a bow. Namaste. I love it!!! There is a warm up part and cool down part, too. The warm up is diferent depending on what you are doing that epi. Lots of cat rolling sequences and twists and hero rolling. I only wish the cool down went slower so I could fully stretch and relax. That part is always the same so I guess I could just do it on my own.

In the class do you guys do Corpse pose for a while? I have read that it is best to end your session with that for at least five minutes to really center and relax. On the show it's only like 20 seconds! I guess it's because they have to keep it at 30 minutes.

My husband pokes fun at the show because it has 3 ladies doing the yoga throughout the sequences and the background changes every few seconds. One point they'll be outside in a park and then in a house foyer. Then some seedy looking warehouse. Then a pier. It really is funny. I told him "You're not supposed to be watching that, just doing it!"

It is a good show though. If you have satelite you should check it out. On DirectTV it is on chanel 261 at 8:30am, 12:30pm and sometimes 6:30pm Mon-Fri.

I actually have a dvd where I practice namaste. I really love it because you concentrate on breathing during all of the poses, I actually got my s/o to do this dvd and he said he loved it too because it helped his back.I also have a weight loss yoga dvd but I dont like that one as much because its more about building muscle and it goes really fast and the narrator does not concentrate on breathing at all.

During the classes I took, one instructor had us do corpse pose while meditating at the end and it was definitley longer than 20 seconds, it probably was around 5 minutes long but Im not 100% sure. Another class I took, the instructor had us meditate in child's pose and the she came around and rubbed your back that was cool too.

I will have to look into doing fit tv. I dont really watch much tv so Im not exactly sure how I would go about doing that (LOL) but I will try to figure it out. But if you get the chance I would definitley reccomend taking a class to see if you like it. Most places let you take a free trial class to see if you like it.

Can you DVR it?  That's what I do.  It seems nothing is ever scheduled for when I actually have the time to do it.

That is too bad.  :-(  Well it was expensive, but I ordered the Namaste dvds because of a similar situation.  Now I will be able to do them whenever I want and in whichever room I want.  They are absolutely my most favorite yoga sequences ever!
