I have this haunted memory of my students teaching....when I had to do two totally different subject areas which was I still believe a sort of an unfair assignment because it was only me who had two subjects.
Work loads were unbelievably heavy, I stayed up until 1or 2 am every nights making 4 lesson plans.
I made a good friend of one of the cooperating teachers, but the other one really hated me. And she has been my nightmare that I can't get out of my head.
She was so mean and had no interest on me what so ever, and the reason why she took me in her class is that in the previous year she had a wonderful work less year with one wonderful student teacher (that's what she braged about) and she expected that again. When I needed her support she wasn't there, even daily bases we were supporsed to see each other she was no where to be found. At the time of my exit interview she told my college supervisor that she wouldn't recomend me for certification. She had not seen my performance or checked my lesson daily based, what basis did she get for that kind of comment. On the report she wrote i was a terrible teacher and students all agreed and she would not recommend any school to hire me, which is totally BS and untrue. My students enjoyed my lessons and of course there were some days that I had some problems with some of the students...who don't?
Since the day some of the kids in her class started ignoring me, yes, she made a clique of students against me....can you believe it?
But my college understand the circumstance and i was awarded certicication later. I was pregnant back then and because of all the stress the baby was in distress and I had to go through emergency c-section.
I am a hard worker and love teaching and love children. I have had antagonists but anybody not to that extent. I'm still hurt and bothered by the memory, I just cant believe any body who is in the teaching position can do such thing to some body who is working hard to become a teacher.
I have never told this story to my teacher friends, and just wanted to vent, wanted to share, or may be just wanted to be free from the memory.
And also I want to say to all the teachers out there or every body who are becoming to teachers, please don't be like her. If you are asked to take a student teacher and if you don't want to cooperate as a profefssional, don't take her/him in.

I can't imagine how bad she felt.
I personally believe that teaching should not be judged only by scores, just as teachers should not judge students only by their testing scores. We can't expect good teaching skills right off the college courses, they should come from experience.......it's something more intrinsic.

I am sorry to hear this. I had a similar experience with my second placement. The students were wild and out of control and the teacher was sick of being there. I did all of my paperwork for student teaching, as well as her lesson plans for her, all of the copying and filing she needed done, her report cards, etc. She fussed at me for not having all of her work done before she needed to take it to in-service with her! She was not supportive at all, but it helped me become more independent and I took over the class as if it were my own.
My college sends profs in a few times during each placement and also has the school's principal observe the student teacher and fill out paperwork. That way even if the supervising mentor teacher gives you a bad review, if they know it isnt true it has no effect on your grade.

Boy, does this bring back memories! I started student teaching, back in '96, and had a horrible cooperating teacher also. I had a 6 month old so the college allowed me to be in the same school for both placements.
The cooperating teacher was anything but cooperating!! She would tell me some things I needed to do over or another way but overall she told me I was doing a good job. Then, she would call my university advisor and tell her I sucked. My advisor would come back to me and we would talk and she would see it was the teacher's problem....not mine. I spent 6 weeks going back and forth with this teacher (and the advisor)...with the teacher saying, TO ME, that I was doing well...and saying to the advisor that I sucked.
After 6 weeks, the advisor came to me and told me they had decided to pull me out of the placement. They didn't want me to even try the second half because, as we all know, teachers talk in the teacher's lounge. My advisor thought I wouldn't have a fair shot with the second teacher. She also said, if you get a bad letter you will have a real hard time getting a job. So, I dropped out of student teaching....
Now, 12 years later, I am back in school to get my certificate. lol I got my bachelor's back then but now I'm going for the early childhood certificate.
****Oh...there IS icing on this cake*** In 2005 I started substitute teaching. My very first school, very first week, I was called in to sub...in.....get this....HER ROOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO!!! She was there the day before I was to sub so I went in to get her plans. I jogged her memory and she remembered me. How ironic that I got paid to do HER JOB....after she gave me such a hard time 9 years before. It was a sweet two days in her room!!! lol
