Captcha can be annoying, but I've always said if it brings a blogger a sense of peace, they should make that the priority over a commenter being annoyed. I found that the better choice is to get rid of Blogger's commenting system altogether and go with something like IntenseDebate which has the security tied in.

It also helps if they use an alternative method for running their giveaways like google forms or rafflecopter. These are so much more efficient than running giveaways using comments.
