Are there any New Yorkers here other than myself?
To people outside of New York, what is your perception of it? What's your vibe of it? If you've been, do you like it? If not, would you want to visit?

I'm just browsing this group but I moved to NYC 3 weeks ago from the Chicago suburbs. I absolutely hated it at first but I'm warming up to it slowly. Strangers can be very rude, bus drivers can be rude, and it's dirty and smelly. I'm alone here and would like to make friends and don't know how to go about that in such an anonymous city. I do like living amongst so many different cultures and hearing 5 different languages in the course of a day. There's so much creativity here and I enjoy being around people who have drive and focus. I work in fashion and I'm here to learn more so I can start my own line. The city is really exciting to me because it's so busy that I could probably spend this whole year exploring and not repeating anyplace. I hope that answers your question : )
Welcome to the group! Hey, we're in the same boat. I'm from the Midwest too (Detroit) and moved to NYC in '04. It's definitely a different place, huh?
Let me know if you need any help with certain places. 3 weeks is really recent!
