East coast diving?

Hi, I was wondering if someone could describe to me what it's like to dive on the east coast, more specifically around North Carolina? I'm interested in water temps, visibility, ecosystem, etc.

DH and I have talked about possibly moving to the east coast from California but I find it hard to leave my beautiful Monterey ;)

Any insight would be appreciated!

There's a series of books by Gary Gentile that are about diving shipwrecks on the east coast that may provide some of the information you are looking for.  He has two volumes that specifically are about Shipwrecks of North Carolina, from the Diamond Shoals North and from Hatteras south.

I've never dove North Carolina; the diving I've done is mostly Florida (West Palm Beach and south to Key Largo) and in the Caribbean.

I have been to Monterey once, and it's so gorgeous, so I can imagine how hard it would be to leave!  Still, there are beautiful areas on both coasts, so I think you could have a win either way you go!  :-)

Thanks Christina, I will definitely check out those books. I read the Last Dive which was a great book, allbeit a sad tale.

Oh, yeah.  I read the Last Dive also.  It was a very sad tale, but also a cautionary tale to be sure.  Fortunately, I've never really had an interest to penetrate wrecks or to dive caves.  Swim-throughs is as much as I'll do, and I've only gone through open wrecks or swam around the outside of wrecks.
