From an 8-5 to work-at-home-mommy

Before having my babies, I slaved away at an eight-to-five job. After my first son was born, I had enough. I was sick of leaving my two month old every morning while crying on my way to work. I was tired of thinking about my child all day, wishing I was home instead of focusing on my job. So I started to plan my escape. I researched my options and decided I would pursue a career as a lia sophia Jewelry Advisor.

Ironically, the day before my starter show (which was my launch into lia sophia) I got laid off from my eight-to-five job. Now when most people get laid off they feel sadness, disappointment, they might be scared or angry. Not me. I rejoyced all the way home. It was only a temporary lay-off, so I collected my unemployment, played a lot with my son, and got busy building my business.

Four months later I got called back to work. Four months of bliss followed by pure “H” “E” double hockey sticks. I just knew I had to be able to stay at home with my son. After a month of being back to work I got pregnant with baby number 2 (another boy). I had some complications and was unable to drive so again I was able to be at home. I absolutely knew that I needed to work from home. I know some women can handle a full-time career away from the home and merge it well with their family. Kudos to them, but it wasn’t for me.

I approached my employer about working from home, but that wasn’t an option, so I focused even harder on my lia sophia business. This time I wasn’t getting unemployment, so my husband and I had to rely heavily on my earnings.

After baby number 2 was born, my husband and took a look and where we were financially and what my business was bringing it and decided that I should officially be a work-at-home-mommy, only work for myself intsead of someone else.

I had lots of titles: “wife”, “mother”, “cook”, “maid”, “family accountant” and “direct sales professional”, to name a few. I think “Mompreneur” is a nice combination of all of them. But I decided to add one more, “Publisher Mom” (PM), and joined the Macaroni Kid family. Macaroni Kid is a free weekly e-newsletter and website that lists all of the kid-friendly activites and events in a particular geographic area. I signed on as the PM for State College – Philipsburg, Pennsylvania and I haven’t looked back since.

I am so greatful that God lead me in the direction that he did. Looking back over the past two years I can see that he had his hand in everything. I finally got my priorities in order: God first, family second, career third. Both of the companies I am associated with provide a tremendous amount of support, but ultimately I am my own boss and I schedule my work around MY life and MY children.
