Hey guys.
My friend has just had a baby and I'm stuck as to what to get her. I don't want to give her any superficial stuff that she will never use. I want to bring her a hamper full of essential things for her and the baby. Does anyone have any idea of what I should include? Like maybe list a few things that you think are absolutely essential in a baby hamper?
I would be really grateful for any help as I need to bring a her a present pretty soon and I've only added nappies to my list!
Also, does anyone have any idea about where I can get cheap packaging material for the hamper? I want to do everything myself so it creates a personal touch, but I need to keep costs pretty low.
Thanks so much for your help.
Leyla.

Any baby health care items are great for when you have a new baby. Baby washcloths, lotion, diaper creams and other things like that. You could also add a couple of little toys for the baby. My kids loved the little cloth rattle you attached to their arms. They made great chew toys when they were a bit older and also provided a great distraction.
For packing material, would baby blankets or burp cloths work? Or, would those be too big? If you are looking to save money check out your local consignment stores. I don't know how the ones in your area are, but the ones around me sell the receiving blankets for like 10 cents each. So you could get quite a few to pad the hamper.
All baby items are good. Bottles, formula, baby moniter, baby bath, towels, onesies, burping cloths, etc. Of course mommy needs a little pampering as well. Maybe stuff some bubble bath, scented candles, soaps, etc.
I would go local for fabrics. Typically, you can find a couple of these types of shops in any neighborhood.
Good Luck!

One of the best presents I got was a backpack filled with everything I needed to go on the road with a baby...mini creams and nail clippers, mini hand sanitizer and stuff like that.
Another great gift was a recipe for baby wipes...PM me if you want it :) They save SO MUCH MONEY!! It's like a buck for 100 instead of $5! And they don't have any alcohol either!
Personally I would NOT give any new mother bottles or formula...it is hard enough for young mothers to breastfeed their children in these modern times when bottles and pumps are "standard equipment"...I challenge you to find an image of a baby in a magazine without either a bottle or a soother (something that is not needed when you breastfeed)
This site has cute nursing covers they run $32 but are free after code, you pay $9 something shipping - BUT you can probably make one for a lot less - cute cover up ideas -
