These people are BEYOND WRONG! I can't believe that our presidents advisers are telling him that women should not get routine mammograms before 50 and should not be taught to "self check" This has got to be the most ridiculous thing I have heard. One of the articles says that it leads to a lot of false tests and unnecessary biopsies. I am sorry, but  I would sure as hell rather have 50 false biopsies than 1 positive test. And what about all those women who  self tested at 20, 30, 35, 39 and found a lump??!?! I am so mad right now about this! Now, insurance companies are going to have an easier time denying women under the "right" age mammograms. ARGH! Thought this was important to share. Thoughts?

If there were more reliable genetic testing available to determine who was and who wasn't at risk for developing breast cancer in their 40s, I'd buy this....but that sort of testing isn't really available. How many cases of cancer are going to go undiagnosed and develop into more severe (less treatable) cases?

This year, over 40,000 women in the U.S. alone will die from breast cancer. My mother was one of them. Get Screened! Get Involved! Let us do everything we can to insure the next generation does not have to worry about this disease.

Want to get involved? Check out Army of Women, and Susan G. Komen. Know other organizations? please message me.

My mom found her lump at 35 and died at 42. I have already found a mass due to early detection. Luckily it wasn't anything serious. I started my mammograms at 28. I think they should be lowering the recommendation rather than raising it. I mean, look at Christina Applegate, and the 10 year old who was diagnosed earlier this year. Come on- get with it. Age should not be a factor when we are battling breast cancer.

Hi,

I agree with all of you. I think that it's just an excuse for the insurance companies to not have to give the coverage. I have been getting mammograms since I was 30 since my mother died of breast cancer at 40. Sometimes the lab "forgets" to put the mammogram through as family history and I have to complain to the insurance company when I find I am not covered. Anyway, when it all comes down to it I think it's all about the money and who is or isn't getting paid.

It's all about money...money...money....NOT lives!!!!  And we should not accept what they are saying!!!!angry You know I really lost it when they said it's pretty much...USELESS to do Self Breast Exams.  Do they think we are IDIOT'S??????

I agree and this world we live it in continues to get more cold and uncaring and more about saving BIG companies money. Seems like we are coming to a point where society just won't help if you are sick or troubled in some way. They just won't want bothered at all soon. Quickly becoming survival of the fittest. It's a sad day. Oh and if I may and sorry about your toes... but our president sucks!

I am really dismayed that something like this has garnered such a small response. Thanks for your thoughts ladies.

I agree wholeheartedly with every reply on here. I can't believe that they would tell us not to self check. I can't believe that they plan on making it HARDER for us women under 40(now 50) to get mammograms. I have had mammograms since 18 and every year I fight with the insurance company to cover it. That is the age that my mom had her first breast removed. Tell me self checking is not important!! This is an outrage. Breast Cancer research has come so far in the last 20 years and then a bunch of obvious morons are going to come and stop it in its track. And to the last poster: No offense, but I AGREE!!!

Wow...it's being splashed all over TV.  I'm listening to my local news and they are saying this is the government saying this and the National Cancer Institute is not agreeing with this.  Our local politician...Barbara Mikulski  does not agree with the government's study findings....if there is one power house to contend with it's Barbara....at least there are ppl higher up speaking out.

I sure hope that something can be done to stop this from taking effect. These days you never know...I am really disappointed in this group-I posted this in two groups and have a total of 15 responses. I think this is a big deal. Guess we are the only ones.
