After Cancer - What are you doing now to de-toxify your life?
I am just curious what - if anything - people are doing to get possible carcinagins out of your household. I have heard non-stick pans are bad so I have cut way back on using those pans. I have also switched laundry detergent. I am attempting to get back into the gym (haven't committed yet!)
Living Clean and Green,
Sheri
There is much information on the internet that will help.
I also have made changes, especially to my diet. Its basically a healthy eating focus - eliminating anything that might involve hormones and preservatives. No red meat (I live in an area where I can get locally grown meat so we know what they are fed and given which helps), wild salmon - never farm raised fish. No processed foods, locally grown produce when available. Its hard for many simple changes can help eliminate hormones and chemicals from the body. Stainless steel cookware, NEVER heat food in a microwave while in plastic containers. Plastic containers are for storage but not for heating. In the home, simple "green" cleaners.
We live in a chemical environment but many have found that we are harming ourselves. I think the Green movement is wonderful . Seems to be taking hold, but we have a long way to go.
Soy can be so hard to avoid though. It's in most commercially produced salad dressings and other products as well.
The nutritionist at my cancer support group also said that flax should be avoided in large quantities because it is also a high source of phytoestrogens. My favorite cereal contains flax seeds, but she said that shouldn't really be enough to worry about. She said that if women with ER+ breast cancer want to take an omega 3 supplement, they should make sure that it is fish based, not flax based.
You may want to check with your Doctor regarding soy products. My breast cancer surgeon told me to stay away from soy based products although it would be alright to have a morningstar product or a boca product occasionally, I was not to frequently consume soy. He also mentioned that if soy or a derivitive was found in a product as the fourth or fifth ingredient that would not be harmful.
Juicing can be very good for you. I have tried it several times. If you are going to start, try checking into to Kris Carr's recipes. There is also a really good Dr. Oz recipe - try googling Dr. Oz Green juice recipe. Those might be good places to start. Good Luck!
I too have changed my diet, I eat no red meat, no dairy, no processed foods and no refined sugar. I eat fresh fruit for breakfast and raw veggies for lunch. My dinner consists of chicken, turkey or fish with an organic rice and a steamed vegetable. If I want a snack during the day, I usually have some raw organic almonds and I have found some really good organic tortilla chips that I have with organic salsa. I cannot tell you how much better I feel. I lost 18 pounds since October and it is helping me withstand my chemo treatments so much better. As for the household, I haven't gotten to that yet, that's next on the list.
