Hello everyone, I have a quick question. I had a double mastectomy two weeks ago. I have already had my spacers filled with 500cc's of saline and my breasts are about the size they were before surgery. I have been sleeping on a recliner since surgery, and after I got my drains removed I figured I would be able to sleep in my bed. I was so wrong. I can not lay on my side at all. It's very painful and it feels like these fake rock hard things they call boobs are in the way. Anyone ever go through this? How long til they soften up a bit so I can sleep like a normal person? I know the muscle has to stretch. How long does that take? Thanks

I'm not sure about the spacers....I only had the breast removal 3 weeks ago. I do "lay" in bed but I'm propped up on pillows a lot of pillows. I'm in a upright position much like a reclining chair.

I hope you continue to recover well and thrive!

I have no experience with this. I just wanted to wish you a good recovery.

It's going to take awhile for your incisions to heal. Plus your skin is stretching to allow for the tissue expander. I'm 5 years past my mastectomy and I was only able to start sleeping without being reclined in 2009. Took me two years. Get a comfortable bed, pillows, and set yourself up a nice little nest. That's my best advice.

Wow! Two years! I wasn't expecting that. I just want to be able to sleep on my side. I just figured that when the pain went away I would be able to do that. I tried to prop pillows up in the bed, but to be honest the recliner is way more comfortable. I just really hope that the next surgery isn't this bad. I have to wait 3 to 4 months to get my implants put in. Please tell me that surgery is a breeze. I had a really hard time with this surgery because I can't take pain meds. Thanks for the replies. Can't wait to out this whole thing behind me!
