Chemo and Mouth Sores

After my mom's mastectomy, she is supposed to have chemo once every 3 weeks.  After only one session though, her entire mouth was in agony.  It lasted for 16 days before she was able to eat solid food again.  She was living on yogurt and iced fruit pops.  We learned that the NutraSal is supposed to prevent and help heal, but it didn't seem to do much good.  After a week they gave her Miracle Mixture, with lidocaine right in it.  That helped, but only so much.

Is there any advice out there?

My mother has throat (esophagus) cancer, and unfortunately had the same thing.  The mouthwashes helped for  a short time but nothing lasted long.  I'm sorry she too is dealing with this.  I know my mom had to eat mushy food as anything she had to chew made her mouth worse.  She also avoided anything spicy, acidic, or extremely hot or cold.

This is really hard to deal with. I ate mushy food. Mash potatoes jello, pudding plain spaghetti.
It will get better but its hard to deal with.
