My Great Grandmother made this every Sunday, I am the only one left in the family that still makes it....If you like sweet and sour you will like this....

 old family recipe

Wilted Lettuce

2 bunches of loose leaf lettuce [ the long dark green one ]

2 bunches of green onions

Cider Vinegar

Sugar

Wash and cut up lettuce

Do the same with the onions

Put in large glass bowl, or bowl that can stand heat

pour about 2 cups of vinegar in a saucepan and heat on med to high add about 1 cup of sugar...keep stirring till sugar dissolves...

Take a little taste, carful it's hot,,add sugar to taste,,,it should be a sweet and sour taste.

When it is close to boiling pour over lettuce in bowl

Put in fridge

Everyone once in a while take and and rotate lettuce so all the lettuce has  a chance to set in the vinegar...you may need to so this a few times.

When all of the lettuce is whilted and it is cold it is ready to serve.

I have found it is better to make the day before. But not necessary,,,
