A little tidbit of info about the great egret: In the 19th century, the great egret's beautiful white plumes were used to decorate ladies' hats. At one point, the plumes were so popular they were worth twice their weight in gold!
Thanks, Gail. No, I didn't know that, but it reminds me of the popularity of flower bulbs. They were once used as currency in Holland!
"The ever-popular Tulip, a symbol of love and immortality, has been around a long time. In fact, this bulb dates back to the time of Confucius. The bulb became so popular in Holland that by the late 1600's, Tulip prices exceeded that of precious metals, selling for more than $2,000 for a single bulb."

Oh I love tulips too! I bought a pastle blend when I lived in Tennessee. My SO built a twelve foot planter and I planted them. We moved and had to carry the thing, filled with dirt to our new home. They were a gorgeous sight! Tennessee, zone 7 is great for daffodils too. They are perennials up there. For those that don't know, you have annuals that you plant and they die. You have perenials that you plant, they go dormant, and then come back the next year,,,,year after year.
