I am an Army wife of 16yrs & a mom of 2 very busy girls! My oldest is 13 going on 30! Lol. & my youngest is 10. They are involved in softball, cheer & drama, as am I. I coach and keep myself & my kids very busy. I wanted to see about getting more info on all of the above & more to hit the ground running when we arrive in July! We have been at our last duty station for almost 5 yes & I want this move to be as positive as it can be!
I have read many posts. And I am soooo terrified about this base! But excited! We can not change it but we can chose to be happy about it. That being said & being a career army family has it ups & downs, and i am aware of all that's "bad" with fort Irwin from all over the Internet, just looking for some positive feed back. PLEASE! Anyone with a positive spin would be fantastic!
Can anyone also tell me what the housing situation looks like...wait list, base housing vs. off base, etc.
Thanks!
Samantha
Its worth the wait the drive from Bartsow is extremely boring and living there is not something I would recommend. I also recommend saving money because there is a lot to see off post and those trips make Fort Irwin a more positive experience (disneyland, san deigo, etc...). Staying active helps too. For your age children they do have a lot of sports and activities you can get involved in. They have a nice pool as well. Good luck with everything :)
I don't know about getting involved with sports yet. We have been here six months and I have a 4 year old and we plan to get him involved in sports this summer. I like it here. It's small and secluded. We were at Ft Hood prior to here, so this has been a nice change for our family. However, my hubby does work waaay more here because they are always in the field. Every base comes with ups and downs though. It's not so bad here. I love being surrounded by beautiful mountains and the clear beautiful sky. =)
I do know there is cheerleading, soccer, karate and some other things for the kids. I plan on getting my son into the karate class as he is now potty trained (yay). I hated lilving here at first but I like it now, just miss my family back home. You make friends and they help make it worthwhile here.
