Has anyone read any good books about colic?

Someone had recommended "The Happiest Baby on the Block" by Harvey Karp. It offers some soothing techniques. It's all about calming your baby with the 5 S's: Swaddling, Side (or Stomach), Shhh, Swinging and Sucking. I ordered it and should be getting it today. I'm not sure how helpful it will be though - because really a lot of those seem to be instinctual ways to calm your baby. I always swaddle him, hold him on his side or stomach while I walk around swaying him and saying shhh to him, and I always give him his nuk... so??? I will let you know how it is and how well it works.

My doctor recommended the book Your Fussy Baby by Marc Weissbluth. She hadn't read it, but had read something else by the author and said it was good. While looking up that book to order it, I came across another one that sounded a little more interesting: The Fussy Baby Book : Parenting Your High-Need Child From Birth to Age Five by William Sears and Martha Sears. I thought this one would also help with my 4 year old, as he is high needs and has been so since birth! So I ordered this one instead.

Now if I only had time to read!

Anyone else have any book recommendations? Or any information about these books?

I have to say I am pretty impressed with The Happies Baby on the Block! I did not really expect it to be that useful. When I was reading what it was about, using the 5 S's to calm your baby: Swaddle, Side (or Stomach), Shhhh, Swing, and sucking, I thought: those are things I do already, they are really pretty instinctual. But apparently you have to do them in that order and there are keys to "getting it right." You have to swaddle them properly and tightly, then you either hold them on their side or stomach (football hold), and your "Shhhh" sound in their ear has to match the intensity of their cries, and the swinging or jiggling motions also have to match their intensity.

If I would have known how useful it might be I would have also ordered the DVD ;)

He really explains a lot about why babies cry and colic. It's very interesting! I wish someone would have recommended it years ago! :)

But I'm not going to say it's a miracle worker yet, I haven't really had a chance to try it out. For some odd reason last night was a good night and once baby started having his screaming fit, I swaddled him and went out to the porch and walked him for only about 5 minutes before he was pretty calm. Of course then I had to still hold him all night, but still it was a much easier night than most.
