Update on Heidy

Heidy turned 3 weeks old yesterday.So on Monday we changed her formula to soy and was using Mylicon too.Seem like it was not working doc said if she seemed to be the same by Friday bring her in so today Friday I brough her in and the doc said that she thinks that she has reflux so she put her on Zantac. 3 x aday.

I was wondering if anyone else has tryed it or knows anyone that used it before?

Heidy syptomes were

fussy

gassy

don't want to burp

arces her back

screams when she burps or youns

crys around the same time everyday 6-10pm

I haven't tried it - I've heard of some who are using it and seems to be working? Let us know how it goes!

Yes, my son is on Zantac 2x per day.  It seems to be working, but it doesn't solve the problem completely.  He has the same symptoms that your Heidy has and we think it might be GERD, however it's all relative really because it all causes Colic.  Zantac is good and we have him on gas drops and Alimentum formula.  He used to have the episodes every single night and now we are down to about 2 times per week with a little extra fussiness here and there.  He's 7 1/2 weeks now and has been colicky since 3 weeks.  Hold him on his left side a lot and make sure he burps often when feeding.  It should help a lot.

I forgot to mention that my son also screams when he burps or passes gas.  You are the first person I've seen who has that issue as well along with the other symptoms.  We tried soy formula also and were told that is not the correct thing to do.  Soy formula contains the same milk protein as cow's milk and you need to eliminate it all together by using a formula such as Alimentum and you will see a significant difference in her behavior over the next week or two.  Maybe ask your Dr. if he thinks that is a good option for her.

my son is on zantac 2 times a day...I wanted to ask those of you who are using it too. When di you give the dose before feeding? 30 min before feeding or after feeding? I have read all three and could use some help on this.

I give my son his in the middle of his morning feeding and same for his dinner time feeding.  He hates the taste of it so I feed him a little from his bottle, then stop and give it to him, then finish his bottle.  It says take with or without food so I don't really think it matters when you give it to him.

We tried Zantac and my son HATED the taste. They switched us to Prevacid. It has worked pretty well for us.
