I am using a cake mix and would like to "dress" it up. Can I use a jam or perserve to ribbon through it?

You could even use two 8" or 9" pans and use the jam as the filler between the two layers.

Yes you can. I always seem to have a lot of jams and preserves that need to be used, so I tried it and it worked out fine.

I've also done raspberry in brownies, which is really good.

Yes you can! It's a great way to jazz up a cake mix.
