This recipe is from Fleur de Lis Bed & Breakfast in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
It is so simple and easy to put together the night before. Great for a weekend breakfast.
French Toast
1 loaf French bread
3 cups milk
8 eggs
4 teaspoons sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 Tablespoons vanilla
3 Tablespoons butter, melted
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Spray or oil a 13x9" baking dish. Cut bread into 1" slices and arrange in one layer in the dish. In a mixing bowl, combine the milk, eggs, sugar, salt, vanilla, melted butter and nutmeg. Pour over the bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Next morning, uncover and bake at 350 for 45 minutes or until puffy and golden brown. Let stand for 5 minutes. Serve with warmed syrup.
