So do you think more people will be eating Vegetarian meals?
I caught bits and pieces of a story on the radio yesterday about the cost of meat rising. I'm not sure of how they explained it exactly, but it was something like the amount of cows is at its lowest since 1952. Some cuts of meat are going for $1 more a pound than just recently.
Anyway, does this affect you meat eaters? Are you thinking about trying to do more meat-free meals during the week? Would you replace it with pasta and sauce or something else?
We haven't noticed a hit to our food budget yet due to the rising costs so it hasn't affected our meals. We have quite a bit of meat frozen though between the food buying club we're part of and the processing of our chickens that we raise.

Nope.
We actually eat more poultry and pig than beef.We had switched to ground turkey over 10 years ago...Usually only order steak out-if we do buy beef its usualy things like cube steak I can make as is or turn into chicken fied steak or stew mix...occasionay a roast (maybe once a year if that gives you any indication of how ittle beef we purchase/consume)
Quoting donnadea:I have already been trying to use less meat and I rarely use beef. I use ground turkey because I can get it for 1/2 the price of ground beef. I use chicken breasts for most of our meat. If we have hot dogs they are usualy turkey or chicken.
I make a lot of things with beans now and we eat a lot of eggs too because we have a friend who has lots of chickens and we buy them off her cheap or sometimes she even gives them to us.
Dried lentils cost even less!
