Tie dye cupcakes UPDATE 1

I did ice them this evening. The icing I got was the whipped kind. Word of advice - if you're not making your own icing do not get the whipped icing! It went flat and the food coloring did make it on the liquidy side. Anyhow, they were a blast to make! Here's the recipe I got off a website.

with these cupcakes,
i just wanted to play with the way they look...
so i used a boxed mix & pre-made frosting.
:)


after mixing the cake up like normal,
divide the batter evenly between 6 bowls.
use food coloring to make your tie-dye colors.
i went with:
red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple
& kept them on the softer side for a springy rainbow.


put a (relatively) small spoonful of each color into each cupcake liner,
stacking the colors on top of one another
& not swirling.


bake as directed.


for the frosting:
divide between 6 bowls & use the food coloring to make the same colors as the cupcake batter.


fit a piping bag with a wilton 2d tip.
put a spoonful of each icing in the bag.
i went around the side with 4 colors & put the last 2 in the center.
pipe to your hearts content!

I separated the cake mix into 6 bowls. Then added the coloring. After that I spooned each color and where it landed, it landed. I'll get the recipe I used.

Awesome, thank you! It does look like fun and I want to make lots of cupcakes. I just need people to take them off my hands so I don't have to eat them all. That would not help my healthy eating :)

Here are all the iced ones. I know what not to do next time. They still look neat, in my opinion. ;)
