Well-The "orange in your stocking" tradition actually started way before the orange and Hershey bar American tradition-but  during WWII...when everything was rationed and fruits and veggies out of season were very rare...The orange was an an "exotic treat" during winter time,and Hershey bars were rationed-so to find one in your stocking was an exceptional treat!!!

I didn't know that....great facts.....I remember getting oranges and apples and candy canes in gift bags when I was little...explains a little more...
