welcome to the group! Do you coupon/sale shop/shop around? Thats the best way to get your meals for less. I get chicken at Walmart or Sams for $1.99lb. whole chickens are $0.99/lb there a lot of times and i can make a dinner out of it and use the leftovers for a pot pie or casserole or something.

Tacos and salads!

We usually do those in the same week. All the fresh veggies can be used for both, so you're not having wasted produce. Use not so much meat, and put black beans in the tacos. In the salads, use way more lettuce than anything else.

Welcome to the group. Our cheapest meals are pasta, sloppy joes, BBQ chicken sandwiches.

Welcome!!!!

I just came across this today.

3 Ingredient Chicken Cacciatore (PIOG)
http://www.food.com/recipe/3-ingredient-chicken-cacciatore-496415

3 lbs chicken legs with thigh
28 ounces chopped tomatoes with garlic and herbs
26 ounces spaghetti sauce

1 Set oven at 350.
2 Remove skin from legs and thighs and set aside.
3 Put Chicken pieces in 13 X 9 baking dish, or equivalent. Spread chopped tomatoes over the chicken. Pour jar of spaghetti sauce over it all.
4 I used chopped tomatoes that were prepared with oregano, basil and garlic and spaghetti sauce flavored with onions and peppers. I mixed in some pepper and cayenne pepper to make it spicier.
5 Bake covered for 3/4 of an hour.
6 Then bake uncovered for an hour.

If you don't want to use canned soup, you can make a substitute.

Build Your Own Casserole
1 cup sour cream
1 cup milk
1 cup water
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper

Choose one sauce maker:
10-1/2 oz Cream of Celery soup
10-1/2 oz Cream of Chicken soup
10-1/2 oz Cream of Mushroom soup
29 oz Italian-style diced tomatoes

Choose one frozen vegetable:
10 oz broccoli
10 oz corn
10 oz peas
10 oz spinach
16 oz yellow squash

Choose one pasta/rice:
4 cups egg noodles, uncooked
2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
3 cups shells, uncooked
1 cup rice, uncooked

Choose one fish/meat/poultry:
12 oz tuna, drained &flaked
1 lb ground beef, browned &drained
2 cups ham, cooked &chopped
2 cups chicken, cooked &chopped
2 cups turkey, cooked &chopped

Choose one or more extras:
1/4 cup bell pepper, chopped
1/4 cup black olives, sliced &drained
1/2 cup celery, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped
4-1/2 oz green chilies, chopped
3 oz mushrooms, drained
1/4 cup onion, minced
1 pkg taco seasoning mix or homemade version

Choose one or more toppings:
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1/2 cup cheddar, shredded
1/2 cup mozzarella, shredded
1/2 cup parmesan, grated
1/2 cup Swiss, shredded

Direction: Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease 13"x9" baking dish. Combine sour cream, milk, water, salt, and pepper with sauce maker (omit sour cream and milk when using tomatoes); stir in frozen vegetable, pasta/rice, fish/meat/poultry, and extra(s). Spoon into prepared baking dish and sprinkle with topping(s). Bake, covered, for 70 minutes; uncover and bake an additional 10 minutes.
