Recipes for Busy Moms Recipes for Busy Moms

I am gonna try this...I was wondering if anyone has ever tried this combo...what did you think?

I can't find a recipe I like 100% so I am just gonna wing it. I will make a cheese sauce using smoked gouda and cheddar. I plan to steam the cabbage.

Yes, please do share. I have seen some recipes that have Campbell's cheddar cheese soup. I am also tempted to try this with cheeze wiz or a Velveeta based sauce.

I do this a lot. It's delicious, and I have a couple of recipes that I'll share with you when I get back to my files.

This original recipe is from Mickey Gilley's Texas Cookbook. My family loves it.
Cowpoke Cabbage
1 head cabbage, shredded
1 cup water
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons butter
3 Tablespoons flour
1 1/2 cups milk
1 cup grated cheese
1 cup cracker crumbs
Place cabbage and water in saucepan. Cook until tender. Meanwhile, melt butter in another saucepan. Mix in flour. Cook while stirring constantly, 2-3 minutes over medium heat. Add milk and cook about 5 minutes while stirring occasionally . Drain cabbage and place in casserole dish. Pour cheese, then white sauce over cabbage. Top with crumbs. Bake for 20 minutes or till cabbage is bubbling around edges.

Amish Cabbage with Cheese

3 cups shredded cabbage (about ½ a large head)
1 teaspoon Lawrey’s seasoning salt
½ cup boiling water
½ cup half & half or milk
½ cup grated cheese (Swiss is my favorite with this, but any kind can be
used)
Cook cabbage in boiling salted water until tender, about 6-10 minutes.
Drain off any remaining water. Add milk and cheese. Place over low heat;
stir until cheese melts and coats cabbage. Makes 4 servings.
