Refrigerator.  It is too hot right now to keep it out as it spoils too fast.

A cut loaf gets stored in my breadbox, otherwise in the freezer till needed. Never in the refrigerator. The frost-free factor in modern refrigerators makes bread dry out and taste yucky.

Unless I am making something like Monte Cristos or BLT's  and I make a loaf specifically for that, we rarely have actual sandwich bread anymore. I make hamburger buns and freeze them. We pull them out for sandwiches or any other bun/bread related dish as needed.  It is easier and no fear of going bad, which was often an issue when I would make a loaf.

I think the fridge makes it get stale faster, something to do with the starches breaking down sooner? My gram said pantry best.

We have one of those breadboxes built into the cabinet. I store a loaf there and then have several in the freezer. Since most of our bread is eaten toasted like for breakfast or as a hot sandwich it works really well.
