Being from Louisiana, home of Mardi Gras I save all the white beads that are thrown from the parade floats and string them together to make a "pearl" type garland.

I use maroon beads. I've used ribbons in the past, by I was not coordinated enough to put them away neatly, so they were all smooshed and wierd by the next Christmas.

We don't use a tree:) Yes, we are different, lol. Since we are Christians, we have chosen something that we believe better represents Christ.(not that other Christians should have to do this, this is just our family)

Instead of a tree, we are making a cross and decorating it with a crown of thorns and a purple robe...maybe some lights,  then placing a manger scene around the foot of the cross. We put in on a solid wood end table that we have had in the family for a while.

Instead of milk and cookies, we make Jesus a birthday cake!
