I did for several years and loved it but I haven't in recent years.  My suggestion is to let the popcorn get stale or it breaks easily.  I also found it best to use fishing line rather than thread.  It seems to slide easier on the line when stringing.

Wow, that memory just came back to me! I haven't done that since second grade, in school!    I won't be doing it for my tree though.

I would love to do that this year but my 1 year old is in LOVEEEEEEE with popcorn and I'm afraid he'll try to pick it off the tree and eat it. So, we'll have to wait another year or two.

I use to string popcorn and granberries with my son's when they were tiny, but because we have BIG dogs could never hang them on the tree, what we did we had the fun in stringing popcorn and granberries we hung them outside for the birds, I decorated their tree for them and they enjoyed it all season.

When we were small we did popcorn and cranberries, now I would be concerned with mice or roaches.

For those who WANT to do it but are afraid for the kids, pets or attracting rodents, do it and hang it outside for the birds.

We string berries and orange slices, old popcorn, etc and hang them (okay, just sort of drape them) on a tree or bush outside. The birds, squirrels and chipmunks have a field day.
