When I had a cat, I'd have a spray bottle filled with water and when she went to go near it, I'd squirt her

As weird as it may sound. My cat loves water so spraying dont work. Any one got any other ideals.

Your cat knocks over the tree?

We had a tiny 3 foot tree the first year we had our first kitty.. (PuppyCat) she never knocked it over.. just tried to eat the ornaments lol.

Last year we had a regular sized tree... and both cats (puppycat and Brii) never tried to knock it over.. they just drank all the water out of the tree bowl lol.

We are going to tie our tree up this year. Using some veggie twine wrap around the middle of the tree and put both ends around a nail or hook. I have 1 baby who stays out of nothing, and 2 cats who are onry! You could even use holiday colored yarn!

One year at my parents, the cats decided to climb the tree. It came crashing down. They then used rope and bolted it behind the tree to the baseboards.

I had a new cat and she tried to do it but I did not use water to get her away. I filled a jar half-way with dried pinto beans and put a lid on. I shook the thing everytime she got near the tree. It freaked her out. I also made sure that she had plenty of catnip toys to keep her from trying to play with the ornaments.

You can also try getting a bottle of repellant -the kind to keep cats off furniture. I hear that most dogs and cats do not like the smell of citrus (lemons or oranges) so you could but them hanging from the bottom of the tree or even a citrus smelling car air freshner at the bottom limbs to see if that will work.

Good luck!

I had this problem one year when my cats were young. I would wake up to a downed tree, broken ornaments, and a "not me" expression on their face. I caught them sleeping in the branches!! So I tied the tree to the wall with string. I just wrapped some twine around the inside of the tree at 3 different places and tied each side of the twine to the wall behind the tree. After a couple years of that they finally stopped messing with the tree. Or if they are scared of sudden noises, you might find some motion detection thing that would move/make noise when they jumped near the tree. It's tough trying to outsmart a cat! At halloween, I found out our cats were super scared of a latex black cat with arched back we had gotten for decoration..lol..so I put it wherever I didn't want them to go and it worked like a charm! lol.
