Anyone have a holiday tradition that you have carried on from your childhood???

We always decorated the xmas tree at my dads when I was little on black friday and now that I am older with children of my own I have carried it on with them. Also on christmas eve my mom would play christmas music ALLLL day and all night, till us kids fell asleep. My daughter loves it.

We put a new Christmas tree ornament on the tree every year. My mom started us doing it when we were really little and every ornament has the year on it.

This is actually from my mother's childhood, that went into my childhood, and now I'm doing it for my children. (My DH has never heard of it, but he goes along with it although he doesn't like it too much.)

We open up presents on Christmas Eve at 12 midnight instead of on Christmas morning. DH has always done it Christmas morning...but I've always done it at 12 midnight. It works out well though...my family (mom, cousin, brother, grandmother, grandmother's boyfriend, my other cousin, etc.) come to my house (mainly because my kids are 2 1/2 and 14 months, it's easier to put them to bed after we're done) and we eat dinner, open presents and just have fun. Then, Christmas morning DH's family comes over and we open up their presents and eat dinner and hang out.

There are a few that I've passed on to my kids.  We always got new Christmas jammies on Christmas Eve and I get some for my kids every year, too.  Another one is that Santa Claus always put the candy canes on the Christmas tree and filled all of the candy dishes with Christmas candies while he was visiting.  I do all of that for my kids because I always remember that it felt when all of that magically appeared overnight!  We also take our kids to Candy Cane Lane every year, at least twice, just as my parents took us there each year when we were growing up.

When I was little my family always went together and picked out the Christmas tree we tried til we found our little boy was allergic to them so we have to have artificial.  We always put it up on my mom's birthday which is December 1.

We started a new tradition with my family since both mom and dad are deceased, We started to decorate a park in the town we live in with the fire department the Saturday before Thanksgiving and the the Friday after Thanksgiving we go to the parade and the kids get to see Santa come in on a firetruck .  The kids get a chance to win a bike and they also get to set on Santa's lap.
