How far in advance to you start preparing the food?  Do you start a couple of day and freeze everything until you need it?

It depends on the party, but I do always plan a menu that can be made ahead. If I'm serving a meal I'll plan something like:

Artichoke Dip (made one day ahead)

Cheese ball and crackers (cheeseball can be made several days ahead)

Meatball Sandwiches (make and freeze the meatballs a week or two ahead)

Salad

Au gratin Potatoes or potato salad and make them one day before

Delicious Cake (a cinnamon bundt cake that's easy...delicious, and can be made pretty quickly and served fresh)

If I do all appetizers and finger foods, I plan foods that can be made the day before.

I'm not a huge party person, but when I am having family over for birthdays etc, I usually start cooking a few hours before they get here.

I start preparing the food as far ahead as I can. I make a small chart and write the days before the party and what I can make each day. If I can make ahead and freeze, I do. Anything that can be made ahead and refrigerated, too. If I can prepare an ingredient ahead, such as cooking ground meat, then I usually do that and freeze it. Chopping vegetables, too.

It depends on what I am making. I might bake in advance. Appetizers I make that day. Some side dishes I might make in advance, as well.

It depends, usually i dont like cooking too far ahead of time, so i try to do everything on the same day.
