My understanding is that they have studied nutrition- what foods contribute what, what a person needs to get the nutrition needed by that person, including people with various disorders that need diet control. For example, a person with diabetes might be referred to a nutritionist. My encounter with nutrionists has been when I worked at senior centers, a nutritionist chose which foods to include in the meals that were offered.
Quoting maciymommieof3:to be quite honest...i am not sure what nutrionists are...
With my second son I was on the verge of GD and it was recommended I see a nutritionist as well but I learned how to eat properly on my own.

I would ask the dietitian at work. When I was pregnant with my second son, I had GD. I had to go see a nutritionist. The doctor's office recommended one for me.
I don't, lol. I haven't needed one, my kids and I are pretty healthy.
