Let each child buy something small for the birthday child or no it's too costly?

They have money they save to buy for each other. I usually match what they have saved to help out.

I let each child pick out something for the other.

We just give one big present from everyone.

The reason I do it this way is to teach my kids how to manage money. They do pretty good at such as young age.

I will let them buy for the birthday kiddo, and I also do the same at Christmas.

I'm not sure yet, because my kids are still tiny (1 and 4). When I was younger my Mom and Dad would let us buy something small for whoever's birthday it was (by small I mean dollar store stuff) and wrap it up. Then they would buy the "regular" gift. We didn't have much money, so there were never birthday parties, really. Just a cake with the family and a few gifts :)

I think I'm going to start this. They all have their own piggy banks with money in it, so why not?
