What's in a name? A whole helluva lot if you ask anyone trying to name their son or daughter. Sure, it's easy to casually comment on a friend's name or what they named their kid, but when it comes to your own child it can feel like the most important decision you make.
Okay, so calling it 'the most important decision' is a bit dramatic, but it is something many parents don't take lightly. When I was younger, in high=school, I use to make lists of my favorite names. I'm not sure why--maybe because I thought my name, Jennifer, was boring--but I use to start with A and try to come up with names I liked all the way to z. (It beat paying attention in history.) I would love to have that list today. My husband and I know we're having a girl, but picking a name has been difficult. Some peole have told us that when we see the baby we'll just know. Although I appreciate the sentiment, I'm highly doubtful. My husband wants to put our top five contenders in a hat, and pick after the baby is born. I think he's delusional.
I bought a used book on baby names but it isn't really helping, and I've looked up names online and that's not really doing it for me either. I thought I'd turn to my cafemoms for some inspiration.
Any ideas? How did you choose your baby's name?
