In the summer it's easier to eat healthier. At least, I always eat better when the weather turns warmer. I think part of it is that there are more fruits and vegetables in season; and, the fruit especially is more refreshing. A cool crisp watermelon can be downright decadent on a hot summer afternoon, but is the last thing I want on a cold snowy day in January. In the summer I load up on fruits like melons and berries--especially blueberries.
Blueberries not only taste good but are great for you; they're full of antioxidants. If you're looking for a blueberry boost, try these easy ways to sneak them into your diet daily.
Breakfast: Toast whole grain waffles and top with a scoop each of low-fat cottage cheese. Top it all off with blueberries, either right from the fridge, or heated for 15 seconds in the microwave. Delicious, easy, and super-healthy.
Snacks: Toss blueberries into yogurts, or blend together into a smoothie.
Dessert: Mix blueberries with whip-cream, and enjoy. It feels like you're eating something bad for you, when it's actually quite good.
