With the arrival of fall comes the avalanche of articles telling us what the fall trends are in clothes, home, and beauty. And this fall, there are some interesting looks showing up in magazines.
One of the bigger trends is the "strong brow." Rather than the thinner, waxed, more highly arched eyebrows that have been the look the last several years, this fall's trend calls for strong, thick, straighter eyebrows. Great news for people whose brows naturally grow that way and who have spent a fortune on eyebrow waxes! For the rest of us, whose brows are a bit spindly, it's time to give the tweezers a rest except for the most egregious strays.
Another is the "no makeup" makeup look. Experts recommend concealer on blemishes and red areas, topped with a tinted moisturizer for coverage, with a little bit of liner on the eyes and a nude lipstick. That's great if you have basically good skin...if you don't (I don't), I like mineral makeup because you can add more just where you need it without it looking cakey or fake, and you get a good-skin glow. I'd be willing to bet that for most of us moms, this trend is also known as "how I look pretty much every day" because who has time to fuss with their face anymore except on date nights and other special occasions?
Bright neon colors are hot too. I'd say if you're much older than 25, skip it or do it in very, very, very small doses. Just like some clothes only look good on tall and thin people, some makeup trends only young women can pull off.
That's not true for bright red lipstick, another fall makeup trend. It would go nicely with the two other trends of a strong brow and polished but natural complexion, that's for sure, and it's a definite powerful, sexy look. If you're a little scared to go with bright red lips, try a lip stain or tinted lip balm in red for a more subtle look.
Which fall beauty trends will you try, and which will you skip?
