With my husband's birthday approaching (this past Sept 1) and being very short on money, I came up with a clever idea. Instead of buying him a card, I decided to write out a nice letter telling him what was in my heart. I put it in a binder in a sheet protector.
I plan to add to it regularly with birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine's Day, and every day "I love you" notes, etc. Through the year(s), he can re-read all the notes of our life together. It will always be there with lots of reminders of how loved he is.
The bonus is the binder had pockets in it, so I can save cards from people who choose to give him cards. I am also going to give the kids and other family members the option of adding to it. It is more personal than any card ever could be, and it cost next to nothing. He loves it!
