Smarter Savings: It Pays to Procrastinate

It's been the challenge of my adult life to overcome procrastination. But sometimes? it pays to be a procrastinator.  Here's an example: Have you decorated for Christmas yet? (I haven't). And have you been wishing for some new items to make your home look festive? You're in luck: Kmart is discounting Christmas trees and decor up to 40 percent.

That's pretty close to the traditional after-Christmas sales, but instead of putting something away until next year (and hoping you'll remember where you put it!) you can enjoy it for a few more weeks. There's still time to win the neighborhood decorating contest or deck your halls like your name is Mrs. Claus.

I tend to wait to decorate until later in the season because I think you stop "seeing" the decorations after they are up for awhile....also, in my family we're rife with December birthdays and anniversaries and stuff, so Christmas doesn't take center stage until later in the game. Aso, we try to follow the Catholic tradition of keeping decorations up until the Feast of the Epiphany on January 6, so we still get a lot of enjoyment out of them. I know people who break out the decorations Thanksgiving night, though, and I think that's also really nice and I like visiting their homes.

When do you like to decorate, and when do you take everything down? And how much decorating do you do...are you a minimalist tree-and-wreath person or can planes see your lit-up house from the air?

We decorated about 2 1/2 weeks ago and it is already down and put away.   I just haven't had the holiday spirit this year and was more than happy to see it over.

My DH came home from work the other day to find it all put up and was like, "We are going to have bad luck now because you put it away before the New Year".  LOL  I personally don't believe in all that and told him that had nothing to do with how our luck was going to be.  LOL
