Although there are signs that Spring is approaching--longer days, milder temperatures (at least as far as New York goes in Februrary)--I'm not relaxing for a second on my beat-the-germs attitude. My daughter, who is nine months old, has spent much of the winter sick with either a cold, a fever, a stomach flu. The baby is building her immune system, I understand, but I was surprised by how frequently she gets sick. (She's around a lot of kids.) Here are a few of my favorite germ-busting tricks and tips I've picked up this winter.

Take your vitamins. I know, you don't want to. I know they make you queasy in the morning, but put them on your nightstand and take one before you go to bed, every night. It's your best defense. (Also, some sunlight and exercise can help ward off the germs, too.)

A cool humidifier helps stuffed up noses, especially a baby who can't take any medicine to help. I have noticed an improvement since we got one.

I don't go anywhere without antibacterial hand wash and antibacterial wipes. I use the wipes to wipe down everything, especially the high chair and table in a restaurant. I know this is parenting 101, but the more I wiper her hands, which go in her mouth every chance she gets, the better chance I have of keeping her healthy.

Wipe down your cell phone and your remote control. I don't know what it is about these two things, but kids love to get their hands on these devices. (Also, apparently light switches are disgusting.) A recent study showed that 16% of all cell phones have poop on them. Gross! Wipe them down every chance you get.

Please share your germ-busting tips with other moms?

Personally I dont use a humidifier in my house, we dont take vitamins (its called we eat balanced foods), I'm not a germaphobe so no I dont take antibacterial wipes anywhere. Its ok for kids to get sick every now and again, germs are good to help strengthen the immune system. I do know a germaphobe though and her kids are sick more often than mine. hmmm makybe killing all germs isnt such a great idea.

same here. no wipes, no meds. I dont over worry about it. we keep them away from others if we think they are sick and wear them instead of using shopping cats but thats about it

Your so right. Although, we have not had a huge winter here in NYC areas, the crazy weather can cause all sorts of cold symptoms and sniffles. You have great tips too. I always carry my anti-bacterial with me and for my dd as well. Washing our hands is a big deal in my house. It's the simpliest way to get rid of germs.
