Birthdays are for kids. At least that's what I think these days as I push a big bday of my own coming up. My daughter has her own big day quickly approaching; she'll be one. The closer it gets the more I'm thinking about what we'll do to celebrate her first year. I keep coming across some great birthday ideas, for birthdays of all ages, so I thought I'd pass them along to you. (Love the 3D rubber duck cake!)
Homemade invitations. I love this idea that the soon-to-be-birthday-girl makes her own invitations, and puts them in the mail. Pick up some extra-special Birthday Rubber stamps, which will add a special touch to the invite.
Make-Believe birthday. You can gear up for the big day by giving them an early gift of a birthday in a box, complete with fake candles, cake, and spatula for cutting and serving. Perfect for practicing before the big day! Another great excitement-builder is the birthday countdown placemat.
Cake to remember. If you want to challenge your baking skills, try a 3D duckie cake. Or for an easy birthday treat, try cupcakes, and display them on a cupcake stand. They're fun and easy to serve. Both will delight your guests--old and young.
What was one of your favorite things you did for your child's birthday?
i worked hard preparing for my daughters first birthday. it was an "under The Sea - Mermaid" theme. I made all of the decorations and i liked the way they came out! My favorite would be the star fish wands I made.

I love these ideas ! :)
My my son's 2nd birthday we got really creative, but most of that was just getting things from a thousand different sites to complete the master plan. :)
Most of them could have been done by myself, but I didnt have any time. :(
He had a ROCK STAR birthday party !
I bough the cake mold (a guitair shape ) and I baked it and iced it all by myself. I am very proud of that :)
His invitiations were concert tickets ! Totally cool ! I just wish there was someone I knew that had a type writer because I had to hand write the info.
We also bought him a banner ($15) that said " ONE NIGHT ONLY" and then put "Henrik's 2nd Birthday?" "Rock Star Party 2011".
We did Rockin Roll rubber duckies and guitar shaped bubbles as favors !
It was really fun!

Those are super cute !
I'm a cheater. we go to a place that handles everything. One year gymnastic, last year Pump it Up. I think this year we're going to do American Girl Doll.
I made the 3D duck cake for my dds 1st birthday! It was my 1st cake other then a basic one, it was actually easy.

Ive gotten really into decorating since then and always make DDs cake myself.
A couple of years ago we made a cupcake/cake that looked like The Very Hungry Catapiliar! It was super cute!
I love all of it! I like to decorate, make the cake/cupcakes, having people over etc.
My daughter's 3rd birthday is coming up. Normally I make cupcakes and ice cream but this year I'm going to make cake pops instead.
