Smarter Health: Wake Up Your Morning Routine

Posted by   + Show Post

Do you find yourself repeatedly running out the door in a mismatched outfit, or better yet, yesterday’s yoga pants that you picked up off the floor. (Not that you went to yoga, but those pants are so darn comfortable!) Forget makeup, or doing more than a ponytail with your hair. Who has time? Most days you feel its an accomplishment if you just get out of the house with kids in tow.

It’s time to change that morning routine, or rather tweak your routine. First, please take a shower. You will be more awake, alive, and refreshed after dousing yourself with some soap and water. And, many days, you don’t have to do the whole shampoo then condition thing, just condition every other day. (It cuts time, and keeps hair healthier, too.)

Buy a super-absorbant hair towel. Costing only about $20, it will cut the time it takes for your hair to dry in half. Wrap your hair in one when you get out of the shower, and don’t take it off till after you’ve dressed and put makeup on. Don’t feel the need to blow dry till bone dry, do the front face-framing sections. Even if you pull it into a ponytail, or clip it up, it will look neater if the front is dry.

Speaking of makeup, if you’re short on time, a quick once-over with an everyday concealer for face and under eyes, a quick brush of natural bronzer on cheeks, nose, and forehead, and a dab of sheer gloss (or chapstick) on your lips, will let you look and feel pulled together. Forget eyeliners, lash curlers, and eye shadow--anything that takes precision, takes time.

What’s your morning routine like?

Well, first...the word routine implies something that is done with some consistancy...which is not something my life currently developing a routine would be a good start for me.  Most days, however, I do shower, but only wash and condition my hair every other day or so because it's so dry.  I try to use a moisturizer ever day for my face and body but most days just do my face.  Then I use an all over face conceiler and some eyeliner.  I have been thinking about adding a bronzer and some tinted chap stick in the mix so I look more alive...most days I look like the walking dead, lol.

I never have time to completely dry my hair and I agree that blowdrying the front makes a huge difference and is ususally sufficient for my day to day needs.

It takes me 40 mins from alarm to go off until out the door unless I have to entertain DS. I do the hair up until my clothes and face is ready, but not with a special towel. I rarely wear make-up.

I get up at 5:45. Shower and dress. Let 6 dogs out. Get S and D up. Feed 6 dogs. Get breakfast going for S and D. Go feed 26 farm animals. Wash up shoes on D and S and neighbor to school. Tuesday  and Thursday go to my elderly mothers to help her with shower and house chores. Wed babysit for a friends infant. Monday  and fridays are less rushed.

My mornings aren't so bad.  I get up and dress for the gym before getting the kids ready for school.  I shower and get ready for my day after the gym and I don't have anything to dress up for, so it's easy to ger ready and takes me less than 30 minutes to do everything.

I don't have one anymore. I have been home on disability since Sept. and have so much pain and don't sleep...I usually sleep 5 or 6 hours and don't really get to sleep until wee hours of the morning. I make myself get up until about 30 minutes before DH comes home for lunch, throw on sweats & slippers, brush teeth and hair. On days I have doctor appointments etc. I have to work a bit. With my pain it takes hours to get moving, take a shower and get really dressed.
