How long do you marinade meat for?
Steaks, I usually marinade for 24 hours, even if it's a rub
Chicken, is usually for 4-8 hours
Pork is also for 4-8 hours
What do you use to marinade it in?
It depends on what meat and how much acid is in the marinade. If there is too much acid and you marinate for too long then it starts to chemically cook the meat which can make it mushy. Steaks and bone in skin on chicken I will do over night. Boneless skinless chicken I do for 2-3 hours max.
i usually just do a quick dip and cook.
I've heard that letting meat marinate for a long time is bad, but then I've heard others says its okay to do it for long time.
If I think about it, I will marinate it in the morning, but usually I just soak it for a few minutes and just continue to brush it on while I grill.
